Jeff Bezos, the man behind Amazon which, obviously, is doing incredibly well at the moment, has become the world’s richest man.
Bezos’ net-worth surpassed Gates’ when shares of the online retailer rose 1.3 percent in New York on Thursday.
Gates is valued at $90.7billion, while Jeff Bezos is worth $90.9billion.
53-year-old Jeff Bezos from New Mexico, went to Princeton and then worked at a (you guessed it) hedge fund.
In 1994, he started an online bookseller from his garage in Seattle. Today we know that as Amazon, Bezos owns nearly a fifth of the overall Amazon shares.
He’s got a couple of side businesses too: You may have heard of The Washington Post. Yeah, he’s the owner. He also looks after a space rocket business called Blue Origin.
Bezos isn’t new to the world of wealth. Earlier this year, he paid $23million for an old textile museum in Washington DC which will be turned into a family home near the Obamas and Ivanka Trump. Cozy.
He’s got a couple of other homes dotted around America as well, obviously.
You may or may not know that Bezos had the fantastic idea of giving out free bananas in Amazon’s hometown of Seattle.
Around 4,500 people take the fruit every day, apparently.
