Spaniard Garbine Muguruza has beaten five-time champion Venus Williams 7-5, 6-0 to claim her first Wimbledon title.
Under a closed roof on Centre Court, Muguruza broke once in the first set and swept Williams aside in the second as she secured her second Grand Slam title.
Muguruza’s win comes two years after she lost her first Wimbledon final against Venus Williams’ sister, Serena.
The 23-year-old said: “I had I think the hardest match today against Venus.
“She is such an incredible player, I grew up watching her play. It is incredible to play her in the final.
“She was definitely an inspiration and it’s incredible to play her here.”
Congratulating Muguruza, Williams said: “I know how hard you work – I’m sure this means so much to you and your family.
“Thanks to my team who have been here day in and day out.”
