N’Golo Kante has admitted that Chelsea will find it more difficult to win the Premier League this season after the substantial spending in the summer transfer window from the club’s title rivals.
The Blues have spent close to £150million this summer on Alvaro Morata, Antonio Rudiger and Tiemoue Bakayoko but Antonio Conte has made it clear that more arrivals are needed as he bids to defend the title while also compete in Europe.
Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City, who finished third last season, have already forked out over £200m on five key players, while Arsenal broke their club-record transfer fee on Alexandre Lacazette.
Conte wants the club to secure deals for one or two more players before the window closes and Kante admits Chelsea will face a sterner test during the 2017-18 campaign with the majority of their rivals strengthening.
‘The season starts next weekend and we have to be ready.’
Chelsea have endured a mixed pre-season schedule and were defeated by London rivals Arsenal in Sunday’s Community Shield clash.
