Gedson Fernandes, Benfica

Manchester United, Tottenham and Liverpool are all tracking Benfica midfielder Gedson Fernandes, with the 20-year-old looking likely to make a Premier League switch this summer.

The youngster has broken into the first team at Benfica this season making 21 league appearances, although only 11 of these have been from the start. However, such have been his performances that he has picked up two caps for Portugal and caught the eye of a trio of Premier League clubs.

Fernandes is rated at £35m and the Mirror reports that his representatives have been in England discussing his future with his suitors.

It is thought that Spurs have shown their hand a bit more readily than the other clubs interested in Fernandes, and are in prime position to get a deal done.


The Champions League finalists are expected to invest heavily in their playing squad this summer after going two transfer windows without making a signing.

The club will hope that their remarkable European run and move into a new stadium will attract some of the brightest talents in Europe to the club, replacing likely departures such as Kieran Trippier and Victor Wanyama.

Fernandes has actually been out of favour at Benfica in the second half of the campaign and has not started a league match since 2 January, which ended in a surprise 2-0 defeat to Portimonse.

He has since been restricted to late substitute appearances and playing in the Europa League. The 20-year-old, born in Sao Tome and Principe, is yet to score a professional goal in his young career.
