Arsenal are set to continue their summer recruitment drive by adding Tottenham reject Jonathan Dinzeyi to their Under-23 squad.

The 20-year-old central defender was released by Spurs last month having failed to make a single first team appearance for Arsenal’s north London rivals.

Dinzeyi has been capped at England Under-18 level but failed to make the grade under Mauricio Pochettino or Jose Mourinho.

According to The Athletic, Dinzeyi’s arrival will accelerate Arsenal’s plans to strengthen their Under-23 side which has been weakened by the loan departures of Matt Smith and Zech Medley already this month.

The Gunners have already completed deals for free agent George Lewis and Tim Akinola at a minimal cost this summer and are hopeful that such signings could generate a profit in the future should they fail to make the grade at first team level.

Dinzeyi started his career as a winger before he was converted into a central defender and had a trial at QPR last season before returning to Spurs where he remained until his contract expired.
