According to the state police command, two of the unidentified gunmen who attacked a police officer at Okpo-Efi junction, Agwa Ejemekwuru road in Oguta local government area of Imo state have been slain.
After shooting one of the police officers at the checkpoint, the gunmen allegedly cut off his genitalia.
Ukam Efut, the dead police officer, was believed to have been assigned to the Agwa Police Divisional Headquarters when he was killed while on patrol with two of his colleagues.
Ukam was shot and his penis was allegedly chopped off by his assailants, while one of the other two officers received facial wounds.
CSP Mike Abattam, a police public relations officer, verified the assault on Wednesday. He claimed that cops arrived on the scene right away and engaged the gunmen in a fight.
Two of the hoodlums were neutralized, while the others escaped, according to Abattam. The police were on the trail of the fleeing shooters, he added.
A bomb detonation was also reported by the state’s Police Command at an oil plant in Izombe, Oguta Local Government Area.
The incident happened in the early hours of Wednesday, according to the Command’s spokesperson, CSP Mike Abattam, who verified it to newsmen in Owerri.
The incident happened at a facility run by Addax Petroleum Development Nigeria Limited, according to Abattam.
He also added that Imo’s Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Barde, has already dispatched a squad from the command’s anti-bomb unit, as well as some of its agents, to the region in order to prevent a breakdown in law and order.
”It happened, there was a bomb blast this morning at the facility but the commissioner has deployed our men to the site,” Abattam said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that two people died in the explosion, according to a witness who requested anonymity.
He claimed that the two middle-aged males were the bombers, who were murdered when the bomb exploded as they attempted to enter the flow station from the front door.
