NYSC anthem composer, Wole Adetiran, dies at 74

Adetiran died on Friday, May 6, at the age of 74, according to multiple Celestial Church of Christ (CCC) members.

Adetiran, who studied music at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, said he wrote the anthem in 1984 while serving in the Oyo State army corps.

Remember that Adetiran bemoaned in July 2021 that he had been suffering from ailments such as hypertension, diabetes, and prostate cancer since 2018.

The NYSC hymn composer was the National Music Director of Celestial Church of Christ until his death.

Adetiran was the Head of Music Department at The Polytechnic, Ibadan, from 2003 to 2007, before retiring in 2008.

Last year, NYSC Director-General Brig.-Gen. Shuaibu Ibrahim led a high-powered team to Adetiran’s home in Ibafo, Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area of Ogun, where he promised that Adetiran’s portrait will be prominently displayed in the newly-built NYSC museum in Abuja.
