2023: Peter Obi withdraws from the PDP presidential race

Peter Obi, a former governor of Anambra State and presidential hopeful, has left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Mr Obi, who was regarded one of the party’s top presidential candidates, is leaving the party just three days before the party’s presidential primary poll.

The former governor’s departure from the PDP was verified by an aide. He, on the other hand, disputed reports that Mr Obi was withdrawing from the presidential campaign, implying that the former governor would run on the platform of another party.

He also wouldn’t say anything about Mr Obi’s next step.

“I can affirm that he (Mr Obi) has quit the PDP, but not that he is no longer running.” “We’ll figure it out,” he stated.

Mr Obi claimed “recent developments” in the party as his reason for departing in a letter seen addressed to the party’s National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu.

Mr Obi underlined that the nation’s difficulties are deep-rooted in a letter dated May 24 and titled “Resignation from PDP and withdrawal from the presidential race.”

“…Unfortunately, recent events inside our party have made it hard for me to continue participating and contributing constructively.

“Our national issues are deep-seated, and we must all make significant sacrifices to save our country.”

Even if the routes differ, Mr Obi promised that his resolve to saving Nigeria remained unwavering.
