In support of the Academic Staff Union of Universities’ strike, members of the Nigeria Labour Congress are demonstrating in Ikeja, the capital of Lagos State.
The present demonstration provides the NLC with a chance to draw attention to other problems facing the country.
Several of the signs carried by the crowd of protestors as they rushed the street read, “Stop importing gasoline, refine the refineries,” “Nigeria at 60 years of independence, greater famine in the land,” etc.
“Reduce the cost of government today, save the masses from poverty and hunger,” said another sign.
