METRO | Man Buried Alive While Digging Pit Latrine In School

A 30-year-old guy was buried alive while building a pit toilet on Monday, July 25, at Jean Marie Secondary School in Nandi County, Kenya.

Josphat was trapped when the walls of the pit collapsed at around 2:00 pm. He was reportedly one of the three men hired to dig the pit at the school.

The incident, according to one of the diggers, Nicholas Odungo, happened as they were finishing up their work. The pit was 30 feet deep at the time. At the time of the accident, Odungo and the other digger were eating lunch.

“We had gone for lunch and we told him to continue digging. We returned shortly after to help him remove the soil and while in the process of tying the rope the walls cave in.”

The father of three is still trapped in the wreckage as of the time this news was filed, but rescue attempts are still going on.

Residents are now pleading with the local and federal governments to assist with the rescue operations.

One of the residents said; “It is so sad that we were coming to the end of our work before we get paid but what has happened has really affected us. We request the rescue team and disaster management to come and rescue Josphat who has been trapped since 2:00 pm.”
