After the arrest of a suspected Boko Haram leader on Sunday, there was unease in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
The Department of State Security Service (DSS) agents detained the suspect.
According to a trustworthy source, the alleged Boko Haram leader was apprehended in the Abeokuta neighborhood of Ijaye.
The source claimed that the suspect first put up a fight before yielding to the greater strength of DSS agents.
The source said that the suspect resisted DSS operatives’ increased vigor at first before finally giving up.
The source informed Daily Trust on Sunday night that the operation was conducted at night.
The alleged terrorist traveled from Katsina to Abeokuta and began working as a security guard at Ijaye while gathering information for terrorist activities.
According to a security source, he relocated to Abeokuta to establish a terrorist cell for abductions and terrorist acts.
After gathering intelligence, the armed security personnel raided his hiding place and captured him.
“It was not an easy ride. Intelligence and the grace of God were sufficient for the operatives. There are still many of them around, but we are on top of our game,” the source said.
Our source learned that the DSS is still holding the suspect.
The news of the purported terrorist assault plan on various states in the South West coincides with the development.
Dr. Peter Afunanya, the DSS spokesman, did not confirm or deny the arrest when Daily Trust called him.
He replied to a text message from our correspondent with, “No comment.”
Abimbola Oyeyemi, the state’s police public relations officer, claimed to be unaware of any arrests.
