Suspected terrorists have reportedly abducted a traditional ruler, the Oniku of Iku, in Ondo and four subjects travelling with the Ikare Akoko ruler.
Peoples Gazette reports that Mikaila Bello, the Oniku of Iku in Ikare Akoko, was kidnapped on Thursday evening while returning to the town from Akure.
According to a local hunter who also serves as a vigilante in the area, the bandits ambushed the ruler and the other victims along Ago Panu on the Owo-Ikare Road.
“The driver of the vehicle was stabbed by the gunmen, but we were able to rescue him alone and rushed him to the hospital.
“He is there receiving treatment now with wounds all over his body. Sadly, these people (bandits) are still lurking around our forest in Ondo.”
It was further learnt that the kidnappers had yet to contact the victims’ families or demand a ransom.
The spokesperson for the state police command, Funmilayo Odunlami confirmed to SaharaReportrs on Friday morning that four persons were kidnapped by unknown gunmen.
She, however, added that the identities of the kidnapped persons had not been ascertained yet.
The attack comes less than two weeks after an armed gang attacked a construction company in Owo, Governor Rotimi Akeredolu’s hometown.
It was reported that gunmen attacked people at the construction company, known as Craneburg, injuring two persons, Rifum Lawrence, aged 50, and Abraham Opara, aged 45, who were security guards at the facility last Wednesday at Folahami Junction.
Dynamites were also used by the attackers who escaped from the scene before the police got there.
