ARSENAL lead race to sign Raheem Sterling from Manchester City in summer transfer

Raheem Sterling is being linked with a move away from Manchester City and Arsenal have emerged as potential suitors.

Arsenal are leading the race to sign the England forward this summer, according to reports.

Sterling has been a superb servant for Man City, scoring 114 goals in 292 appearances for the club and starring in three Premier League title triumphs and four EFL Cup wins.

Mikel Arteta will try to bolster his Gunners squad this summer following a dismal season in which the club finished eighth in the Premier League.

Sterling almost joined Arsenal as a teenager while he was at QPR’s academy and The Sun say the north London club are leading the race to secure his signature this summer.

On Tuesday, Sterling was named in England’s 26-man squad for Euro 2020, alongside Arsenal star Bukayo Saka.

Sterling has been a key player for Gareth Southgate’s England but Arsenal legend Ray Parlour believes he may be forced to feature from the bench at the Euros.

Parlour told talkSPORT: ‘Sterling is bang out of form. A couple of months ago, he was starting for me, but now suddenly he’s not in the team.

‘There’s so much competition that I don’t think he can pick him if I’m being honest.

‘Sterling’s never let England down and I’m sure he’d be a great substitution to bring on last 25 minutes if you need a goal or something to happen.

‘I just think there’s other players in front of him at the moment. Man City have made that big, bold statement already.

‘He was always playing week in, week out. Suddenly he went through that indifferent period and Pep Guardiola went “you need a rest”. Maybe Gareth Southgate is looking at it that way too.’
