Atiku, Buhari not good material for presidency — Soyinka

The Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, says neither the presidential candidate of the All Progressive Congress, President Muhammadu Buhari, nor that of the People’s Democratic, Atiku Abubakar, will get his vote.

Soyinka said this in Lagos yesterday at a programme tagged: “The Civic Choice in a time of Judicial ‘Penkelemes”, organized by the Citizen’s Forum.

He said: “I, Wole Soyinka, will not be voting for either of the two so called contesting parties, I find both of them worthy of absolute rejection for a number of reasons which I will not go into here. I am not interested in comparative assessment; it is just too late for that. My position is that it is time for a totally new direction and obviously, I am not the only one, there are so many opposition parties wanting to take over the reins of governance.”

He said a third force coalition would have emerged a long time ago, but for “professional hijackers who hijacked it”.

Human rights lawyer, Femi Falana, said the suspension of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen, should not be tolerated in a democratic society.

He also condemned the leadership of the Nigerian Bar Association and the National Judicial Council for “pretending there was no problem with the allegations levelled against the suspended CJN”.
