Former President Donald Trump is reportedly announcing class action lawsuits against Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg and Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey.
Trump, who was banned from both social media platforms after the January 6 Capitol riot, is set to unveil the suits during an 11am press conference on Wednesday, sources told Axios.
The former president’s legal action has the backing of the America First Policy Institute, which is a nonprofit pushing his policies. The institute’s president Brooke Rollins and board chair Linda McMahon, who are former Trump officials, will join the ex-president in his announcement.
Through the class action suits, Trump can sue Zuckerberg and Dorsey on behalf of a larger group of people that he claims have been censored by Facebook and Twitter.
Trump has long complained that the social media giants favor liberals and are biased against conservatives in their policies, but has not provided substantive evidence on the matter.
There was speculation that ex-president’s press conference would be to unveil a new social media platform, but that is not the case, a Trump aide told The New York Times’ Washington correspondent Maggie Haberman.
