Antoine Griezmann and Gerard Pique praised Barcelona’s character after they went down fighting during their Champions League exit at the hands of PSG.
Trailing 4-1 after a one-sided first leg at the Nou Camp, Barca produced a spirited display in the return leg this evening to draw 1-1.
Lionel Messi’s stunning equaliser gave the visitors hope of getting back in the tie after Kylian Mbappe put PSG ahead with a controversial penalty.
But PSG held firm and benefited from a missed penalty from Messi to keep Barcelona at bay and advance to the quarter-finals of the Champions League.
Griezmann, reacting to Barca’s Champions League exit, said: ‘It’s a real shame, I’d say there were four clear-cut opportunities plus the penalty.
‘If you don’t put them away, it’s harder later in the game. Nevertheless, It was a completely different contest to the first leg.
‘In the end, it wasn’t to be but we gave it everything we had. It’s also true that Keylor had a great game for them tonight – congratulations to him.
‘It’s time to keep our heads up and feel confidence because of how we played. We need to keep improving for the season to come.
‘We are hacked off because we were desperate to go through. I don’t think we deserved to go out this early but next year we’ll try to win this competition.’
Barcelona legend Pique added: ‘What a fantastic match. To play that well deserves huge merit after the first-leg result.
‘I’m proud of my team and my team-mates. There’s lots left to compete for this season and we’ll continue to do so until the end.’
