Chelsea have made N’Golo Kante and eight other players available for transfer this summer, according to reports.
Frank Lampard has already strengthen his squad with the signings of Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner ahead of the new season.
But the Chelsea manager is keen to land Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Kai Havertz, as well as a new goalkeeper and a new left-back. Chelsea’s business in the transfer window this summer will also depend on their departures and according to The Times, the club are already open to offers for nine players.
The report claims that Kante, who has started just 23 games this season due to an injury-hit campaign, has been made available despite being a key part of Chelsea’s midfield when fit.
Kante’s fellow midfielder Ross Barkley is also available, while the club are looking to permanently offload Tiemoue Bakayoko, who has spent the season on loan at Monaco.
The report also claims that Chelsea are looking to overhaul their defensive options and the club are willing to listen to offers for Kurt Zouma, Andreas Christensen, Emerson Palmieri and Marcos Alonso.
Chelsea are also looking to find buyers for Michy Batshuayi, who has one year left on his contract and made just 13 appearances this season, and Kepa Arrizabalaga, who was dropped by Lampard for the FA Cup final defeat to Arsenal on Saturday.
However, Chelsea could struggle to find a buyer for Kepa following his poor performances this season.Meanwhile, Lampard admits he is concerned by the number of individual errors his defenders have made this season.
‘The numbers do not lie,’ said the Chelsea manager after his side’s defeat to Arsenal at Wembley.
‘We are trying to play a certain way. I know that teams who are now at the top of the game, Liverpool and Manchester City, have been through similar periods – I am not saying we will get to their level – in the early stages when their manager was at the club of conceding too much.
‘It is a work in progress for me. I can’t shelve it in another direction, we have to work defensively as a group.
‘But some of the individual errors we are making, clear individual errors, some in the final, which clearly cost us goals cannot be there if you want to keep moving forward.
‘There are areas to improve defensively and of course we have to improve. ‘We have to work as a group to make that better. That is clear. We are not hiding from that.’
