Cesc Fabregas will be a keen observer of the FA Cup final when two of his former clubs, Arsenal and Chelsea, go head to head.
Fabregas developed into one of the world’s best midfielders during his formative years at Arsenal before returning to London to win the Premier League for the first time with Chelsea.
The former Barcelona man won the FA Cup with both clubs but he suspects it will be Chelsea who get their hands on the trophy this weekend.
However, while the Spanish World Cup winner views Frank Lampard’s team as the favourites, he insists Mikel Arteta’s men need the win more.
‘Arsenal need it more,’ Fabregas told the Daily Telegraph. ‘Chelsea basically every year has won a trophy, so it’s a different animal in this case.
‘In terms of trophies, Arsenal needs it more and for confidence for next year and getting into Europe.
‘Chelsea are in the Champions League and Arsenal has nothing at the moment.’
Both Lampard and Arteta are in their first seasons in charge at the Premier League giants.
Lampard guided the Blues to a top-four finish, while Arteta – who replaced Unai Emery as permanent Arsenal manager in December – could only secure an eighth-place finish for the Gunners.
Should Arsenal fail to win on Saturday, they will not be involved in Europe next season. Metro.
