Kian Trippier has been charged with breaching the FA’s strict gambling rules.
Trippier will now face an anxious wait as he has until May 18 to respond but a guilty charge could lead to serious consequences for his career for club and country.
The England defender could now be left facing a long ban and huge fine if he is found guilty.
There is a football wide ban on any gambling within the sport which prevents players, managers or any staff betting on all aspects of the game.
Mirror Sport reports that some of the investigation surrounds his £20million move from Tottenham to Atletico Madrid last July.
In a statement, Trippier said: “I have fully complied with the FA’s investigation over the past several months on a voluntary basis and will continue to do so.
