Man whose vehicle was sprayed with bullets dies in hospital

The motorist whose vehicle was sprayed with bullets in Juja, Kiambu County on Tuesday evening has died, police say.

The victim was rushed to the Thika Level 5 Hospital in critical condition after a three-man gang fatally fired at him while driving.

The lone occupant of a private Subaru Forester was diverting to Kenyatta Road, off the Thika Superhighway at 4pm, when the gang opened fire.

The suspects were tracking the motorist on a motorcycle, police said.

Juja Directorate of Criminal Investigations Officer (DCIO) Richard Mwaura told The Standard that the attackers sped off after suspecting they had killed their target.

Police said the exact number of bullets fired into the car was not immediately known, though they confirmed that “they were several”.

Kiambu County Criminal Investigations Officer Samson Kiptum told The Standard Tuesday night that the victim, who did not have any identification documents on him, died while receiving treatment at the Thika Level 5 Hospital.

“His body has been moved to the General Kago Funeral Home pending autopsy and identification,” he said.
