R Kelly: Singer to appear in court tomorrow

R Kelly is expected to appear in court tomorrow (Saturday 23 February) after he was charged with 10 counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, against four victims.

During a press conference, Cook County District Attorney Kim Foxx read out the charges and dates of when the alleged crimes occurred.

‘Aggravated criminal sexual abuse is a class two felony, with a sentencing range of three to seven years per count. ‘We anticipate Robert Kelly will appear in bond court [Saturday] afternoon.’

Three of the four victims were under the age of 17 at the time the alleged incidents took place, with Kelly being five years older than them.

He allegedly ‘transmitted his semen onto the [alleged victim’s] body for the purpose of sexual gratification, during the course of an underlying felony, of attempt criminal sexual assault’.

One victim is the subject of four different counts.

According to TMZ, sources claim Kelly plans to voluntarily turn himself in to authorities tonight.

The 52-year-old was recently the focus point of documentary Surviving R Kelly, which contained allegations he had been mentally, physically and sexually abusive against numerous women, over a period of 25 years.

The six-part series, which originally aired on US channel Lifetime in January, features 50 interviews covering accusations including his alleged sexual preference for underage women, his marriage to 15-year-old singer Aaliyah, and rumours that he had created his own ‘sex cult’.

He has always maintained his innocence and has never been convicted, with his lawyer publicly claiming the women involved were ‘just trying to make money’ off him.

Further allegations of a videotape surfacing of Kelly having sex with a 14-year-old emerged in February, which his attorney also denied. (Metro)
