"We were not clinical enough" - Thomas Tuchel urges Chelsea star to improve in two areas after Malmo win

Thomas Tuchel has urged a Chelsea star to improve in two areas after the European champions beat Malmo in the Champions League.

Hakim Ziyech scored in the second-half of the game – courtesy of a brilliant cross from Callum Hudson-Odoi which separated the sides in Sweden on Tuesday night.

Tuchel was glad to see Ziyech score his first goal since the European Super Club clash against Villarreal in August but believes the Morocco international can still improve his ‘decision-making’ and become more ‘clinical’ in front of goal.

‘Still I think there is space to improve for him in his decision-making and where to be more consistent,’ Tuchel said of Ziyech after Chelsea’s 1-0 win.

‘We always rely on his work-rate, counter pressing, awareness. It is a huge part of his performances.

‘He can still be more clinical and maybe grow more into the rhythm but I think his shoulder injury hurt him a lot.

‘Even if he pushed hard to come back early, he is not still 100 per cent free as he should be but I am happy because a goal like this will help. I am happy for him.’

On Chelsea’s performance, Tuchel added: ‘We needed the result, we expected the result, we delivered.

‘We had a lot of touches but maybe we were not clinical enough yet. We wanted to increase the intensity in the second half.

‘We were able to use this one moment, this position, to be clinical enough to score and then we had enough chances for a second one.

‘The control was on our side. We did not suffer through difficult situations in our box, we never lost concentration.’

Champions League holders and Premier League leaders Chelsea now look set to progress to the knockout stages of Europe’s biggest club competition as they bid to defend their crown in Tuchel’s first full season in charge.
